Deadly Earthquake Hits India and Nepal

The earthquake that occured in Nepal was a news that many newspapers and magazines published. We worked with one of their articles and wrote a summary.

"The article published on September 23rd of 2011 talks about a strong earthquake that took place in India and Nepal with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 . After the first tremor, the Indian seismology offical assessed that more aftershocks would probably hit the region.

The earthquake caused the falling of many building followed by the interuption of light power, leaving a huge area of the country in darkness. The most relevant damage was the lose of around 15 lives and dozens of people hurt in Nepal.

The prime minister of India, Manmohan Singh, said he'd sent troops to help. The National disaster management Authority organized an emergency meeting and the rescue efforts were supported by the air force".

Evacuation as Calbuco Volcano Erupts in Chile

We found an article wich talked about the eruotion of a volcano in chile. After focusing on important information we made a summary.

"The article published in April 2015, enables us to know that the Calbuco volcano in southern Chile has erupted twice in a few hours, leaving a huge amount of ash and lava on the air. A red alert has sounded, and an emergency director for the region reported that the volcano had not been under any specially form of observation, even though it's one of the most active in Chile, its explosion wasn't expected as it has been dormant for years. People living near to the region affected had been evacuated, as well as Bariloche habitants in Argentina. Also school areas and flights had been canceled. Nearby residents talk about being extremely frightened and of seeing the ashes from far miles away. Although Chile has moré than 500 powerful volcanoes, rumours about haven't seen this never before are growing through residents. Interiors minister asked to people affected to "remain calm and stay informed".

The Ring of Fire

As we worked with information about the Ring of Fire we wrote a summary highliting the most impotant facts and characteristics of this natural mystery.

"There are many volcanoes in the world, but almost the 75% of them are found in what we know as The Pacific Ring Of Fire. This is an area located in the Pacific ocean that goes through the South and North America, Eastern Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

There are 452 well-known active and dormant volcanoes on it, including the most active in the world, the Kilauea. Many of them have such power, that the eruption of only one of them can cause a lot of trouble to the people that surrounds it, causing destruction, sudden evacuations and a big number of deaths. Santa Maria Volcano in Guatemala, for example, erupted in 1902 affecting the south-west of the country. Others, like the Mount Yasur in Vanuatu is still taking the life of tourists who get too close to the crater that has been erupting for around a hundred years.

The tectonic plates have made many changes in this Ring of Fire, mainly the destructive ones. The crust that melts inside the Earth provides magma to these dangerous places, when it goes down it can produce new volcanoes, and its move can cause earthquakes.

So if you live in the nearby of the Ring of Fire you may know how to prepare for the risks that may reach you. It’s a dangerous area, about 90% of the earthquakes happen in this territories and due to this, people have to look after the dormant and active volcanoes in the same way".
