The floods in China in 1931 were really catastrophic. During 1928 and 1929 a large drought affected China, everything was really dry, the soil was erosioned and cracked. But some months later, abnormal weather was over Central? China during winter of 1930. But then the spring came, and with it the heavy rains that then raised the amount of water in the rivers. Between July and August the rains increased significantly and were followed by cyclones. In 1932 there were around eight or nine cyclones.
Trevor Digles told us that he noticed that all the streets and many houses were full of water, and wherever he went, he could find persons throwing away the water with buckets.
Two of the important flooded rivers of China that reached the capital in the island were mentioned in most of TV programs. Many families were evacuated and a lot of people got ill of cholera and typhus. Even women and daughters were sold and taken away because of this natural catastrophe. Around 4 million people lost their lives and the damage that was caused was enormous.
